“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:13–16).

As Christians, the influence we have on others flavors, preserves, and guides. As preachers, we have the opportunity and obligation for these three things to be of even greater significance to others. They look to us to model the message we articulate. As a result, we must ever be on guard against doing anything that would jeopardize or diminish this influence.

Obviously, there are some who will speak evil of you regardless of your good character (1 Peter 4:4). Such was the case with Jesus. Our responsibility is to, like Jesus, live in such a way that the most these words can be are false accusations (1 Peter 3:16).

  1. Be careful what you say.
  2. Be careful where you go.
  3. Be careful what you do.
  4. Be careful what you post.

The list could go on. But be sure that one thing you may not as a Gospel preacher do is anything that would harm or jeopardize your influence.
