I’ll recommend many resources on this page that I wouldn’t recommend to a general audience. Because this site is intended to reach preachers, though, I assume that everyone reading this page approaches these resources with a spirit of discernment. As the saying goes, “Eat the hay and spit out the briars.”

With that in mind, I recommend a podcast that I’ve spent dozens of hours listening to over the last several years, especially when I’m researching something of an apologetic or theological bent.

The Unbelievable podcast with Justin Brierley tackles tough topics by having a dialogue between people who hold opposing views. Here’s the description from their website:

Unbelievable? engages in fundamental questions on Christianity with the intention to openly discuss different opinions between Christians and non-believers.

Each Saturday, in the award-winning programme Unbelievable?, Justin Brierley asks questions like:

Is there evidence for God? Can we trust the Bible? Did Jesus rise from the dead?

Justin tackles these and other issues on a show that gets Christians and non-believers talking to each other.

In the last few weeks I’ve been preparing lessons on some hot-button issues (women’s roles, inerrancy of Scripture, and so on), and I found 10–12 episodes in the archives that familiarized me with the latest research.

The podcast also has discussions between capable apologists like William Lane Craig and Ravi Zacharias, and atheists such as Bart Ehrman and (the late) Christopher Hitchens. Other notable guests include Alister McGrath, Peter Kreeft, Peter Enns, N. T. Wright, John Lennox, and hundreds more.

Dozens of topics have been covered, including:

  • The trustworthiness of the gospels
  • Same-sex relationships
  • The historicity of the Adam and Eve narrative
  • Just war versus pacifism
  • Evil, pain, and suffering
  • Calvinism versus Arminianism

You can access the podcast in several ways:

  • Search for “Unbelievable?” in iTunes
  • Use your favorite smartphone podcast app

I subscribe to the podcast using my iPhone’s Downcast app, and I search for episodes that address whatever topic I’m researching. I usually listen at 1.25x or 1.5x in order to get through the material more quickly.
