The Preacher and his Work, Wendell Winkler (c. 1987)

  1. Remember the wedding is the bride’s; not yours or the grooms. Ask the bride the questions.
  2. Make sure you know who in the community is in charge of the rehearsal.
  3. Make sure that you whisper something to them when they come before you to allay fears. If the bride is given away, read Revelation 21:12.
  4. Here are the details of a ring ceremony:
    • The groom gives the ring to the bride first.
    • You ask, “Do you have any token of your love and affection?” He answers, “Yes, I have a ring.” “May I hold it please?”
    • Then, the ring comes from the best man to the groom to the preacher to the groom to the bride.
    • Hold the ring and make some comments about it (gold=pure metal, as love it to be pure; circle=unending, as your love is to be).
  5. Be tender, not cold.
  6. In the church building, I don’t personally believe there should be mechanical instruments, but it is up to the elders.
  7. When the wedding is over, find out if they want to be presented.
